Before the Eid prayer at the end of Ramadan, every adult Muslim who possesses food in excess of their needs must pay Zakat-ul-Fitr (fitrana). The head of household can also pay Zakat ul-Fitr for their dependents such as children and any dependent relatives. Zakat-ul-Fitr can be paid during Ramadan, before Eid prayers at the latest, so that the poor can enjoy the day of Eid.

"Keep up the prayer and pay the prescribed alms. Whatever good you store up for yourselves, you will find it with God: He sees everything you do." Holy Quran 2:110
